Prior to joining Barbizon Electric Company’s Systems Division in 1997, Mr. Gebbie received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He worked on a freelance basis for the CBS Soap Opera Guiding Light.
John also worked for Strand Lighting as Technical Specialist on several projects, including the Broadway musical Ragtime, the Philadelphia Academy of Music and Bally’s Wild, Wild West Casino in Atlantic City.
As Lead Project Manager for Barbizon New York, John brought a strong technical background to the installation business. Some of his projects include the construction of the American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space and the renovation project for the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theater. He served as Field Project Coordinator for the Universal Studios’ City Walk Theme Park in Orlando, Florida.
In 2000, John was named Manager of Barbizon’s New York Systems Division where he focuses his time on system design. He most recently designed broadcast lighting control systems for CNBC’s Corporate Headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and the worlds largest interactive lighting control system for the reconstruction of the 7 World Trade Center tower in NYC.
With diverse knowledge in film, television and theatrical production, Mr. Gebbie provides a wide range of experience in the permanent installation of complex lighting systems. Many of the New York lighting consultants and engineers turn to John for technical solutions and lighting systems integration services.
